3. If the main goal of your site is to make money with AdSense, be sure to choose a topic that you know a lot about so you can write lots and lots of content.

4. Get traffic. Once your site is up and running you'll need to learn how to get your site listed in the major search engines.

The commission you receive per click depends on how much advertisers are paying Google for the particular ad. You will earn a share of that amount. I've heard of earnings anywhere from 2 cents to $15 per click.

So it is logical to believe that keyword phrases like debt free, employment, make money, mp3, sex, etc. will earn you more per click since these are highly competitive keywords that are searched for quite a bit on the web.

Advertisers generally pay more for popular terms because they are searched for more.

Even though Google will not reveal how much you are earning for each ad that is clicked from your site, you can still login to your account at any time and see the total amount of revenue you've generated that day, week, month, year, etc.

For example, if you see that you've made $12.60 today from 9 clicks then you can calculate that your average click-thru commission was $1.40 per click. That's as detailed as their stats will get. Also remember, that's only an average. You won't know how much each specific ad brought in.

The amount you'll earn also depends largely on the amount of targeted traffic you receive to your own site, how well the ads match your audience's interests, the placement of the ads on your pages, and of course the amount you receive per click.

Ideally, you should create a site on a topic you know a lot about. That way you'll have a much easier time creating a generous amount of content on that subject.

Why I Believe AdSense Works So Well
For years, website owners have tried to make money from their sites by putting up banner ads in hopes of visitors clicking them. The problem with banner ads is that the Internet audience is so immune to them, people do not click on them anymore.

Before you even begin your site, make sure you've come up with a topic that you feel you know plenty about. That way it will be easiest to write a lot of content.

The more content you have, the better chance you have getting accepted into the program. Also, the more content, the greater the earning potential. AdSense is nothing but a numbers game. If you want to make a lot of money, prepare to write a lot of content.

Now let's talk about building your website. There are two ways you can approach this:

1) Do it Yourself (DIY) from scratch

2) Use Site Build It! (SBI!)

The Do It Yourself Method
I've actually used both methods for building my site and there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

If you use the DIY method, you will have to go and register a domain name (yoursite.com) and then sign up for a web host and build your pages. You can either learn HTML or buy some kind of web editor like Microsoft FrontPage to build your pages. That's the method I used to build this site.

Averaging between $7 and $15 per month, the DIY method is usually the most cost friendly of the two but you are mostly on your own in terms of learning how to create your web pages and adding the AdSense code to your site.

Web hosts are generally there to house your site. They don't specialize in helping you market and optimize your site for the search engines to help you get traffic. So don't expect a lot from them in terms of helping you market your site.

This is not necessarily a bad thing. I had to learn how to build this site on my own and it wasn't very difficult.

Better Adsense stats sound like a no brainer, but is it?

Sure having stats available on a per site basis would be nice, and from what I've read here that's probably something we'll get sooner or later.

But anything beyond that may have some negatives associated with it that will eventually affect all publishers, some more than others.

It seems to me that about the last thing we really need is per page stats. I think that's just asking for trouble.

My guess is that with-in minutes of page stats being available Adsense abusers would have their automated systems changing page content on-the-fly to reap greater payouts.

To think Google, and advertisers, would not react negatively to this is wishful thinking at best.

Maybe Google will begin to review pages that are frequently, or dramatically, changed to help detect and prevent abuse. Since Google seems to like automated systems, that review may become automated as well.

Automating the review/abuse system could lead to a good number of innocent webmasters getting penalized by mistake. That's just a function of trying to automate a one-size-fits-all policy.

High quality advertisers are likely to react by opting out of content syndication if they percieve the system is being abused to their disadvantage.

It's apparently true (see the adsense stats scripts posted about in this forum) that their are other ways to achieve better stats than Google supplies at the moment. And it seems that Google doesn't object to at least some of these methods.

I'm sure no one here would want to abuse the system, but it's fairly safe to assume that if the scripts posted on this forum could be built by members here, others with perhaps less noble intent could build them too.

So I suppose it's likely that someone somewhere could already be manipulating the system through stats analysis to their advantage.

Do we really want Google to make it easier?

Stats per site, yes.

Beyond that, I'm not sure.

I'm not even sure that they shouldn't cut back on publishing our stats to one time per day. Hey, that would at least give some of us more time to actually work on our sites more.

In many cases, when we log on to the internet, we are looking for something. While our individual needs may vary, they are usually satisfied with the same instrument, a search engine. In the United States alone, the top search engines pull in over 200+ million searches per day and over 6 Billion searches per month. With statistics like this, it would only make sense to optimize your site to be as search engine friendly as possible to get a bigger slice of the search engine pie.

Search engine optimization is the key to greater efficiency. And there are several ways in which it can be achieved without hiring an expert.

1. Do proper research and planning for the keywords you wish to target. You will want to be sure you are targeting the correct keywords. You want keywords that are highly targeted to your site. For example, say you have a site that sells supplies for indoor/outdoor signs. When planning your content, you may want to target the keywords â€˜ink and sign making suppliesâ€™ or â€˜wholesale ink and sign making suppliesâ€™, rather than â€˜sign inkâ€™ or â€˜sign suppliesâ€™.

2. Target the proper niches within your category. Several search engines identify specific theme, or niche areas of websites. By targeting certain niches within your target category, you can gain top spot for top niche keywords. Many times your subpages will hold top rank for these excellent keywords. If you get to #1 on Google, but your visitors are immediately turned away by poor content, site design, and layout, how many sales can you expect to get?

**While reviewing your content, keep an eye on your siteâ€™s â€˜keyword weightâ€™ and â€˜keyword densityâ€™. If the ratios are too low you will not rank very well for your targeted keywords. However, if the ratios are too high, some search engines may view this as keyword stuffing and penalize your site for this.

An excellent way to monitor your site is with a program called WebCEO. There is a great free trial version with no time limit. Just search for WebCEO in any search engine for the free download. Using this program, you can do a full review of your site. I would recommend following the advice very closely, as I have used the trial version to get my site to top rankings on all major search engines.

4. Meta Tags. Your siteâ€™s meta tags are still an important part of your content. Although some search engines are placing less weight on these, I would still recommend optimizing your tags as they still hold some weight. You will want your keywords to appear at least once in your â€˜titleâ€™ and â€˜descriptionâ€™ tags, preferably at the beginning. I have found it to be just fine to make your title and description tags identical.

Same as with your content, with your meta tags you will want to cater to your customers first. Be sure your title is easy to read and demands action. Usually, your title tag will be what is displayed in the search engine result pages. Be sure your title attracts a click once a person reads it.

The description of your website, especially the description tag, is also important, as several search engines will refer to it. If you decide to make each unique, be sure to carefully maintain the balance between catering to the customers and catering to the search engines.

5. Be careful when you decide to use certain technologies on your website. You may not want to sacrifice your sites rankings to make your site prettier. Many technologies such as flash, allow a page to be clearly seen by a human eye while presenting a blank page to the search engine if it is not optimized properly. Be sure that the technology you decide to use does not harm your rankings in an indirect manner.
